Halloween cookies

These Halloween cookies were so much fun to make!  A big thank you to the tutorial that Lila Loa provided!!  I hope Pea #2's preschool class enjoys eating them as much as I did making them.

Which one's your favorite??

I had a little bid of dough left over at the end, so made some cute baby faces for Pea #1's dance teacher (she just had a baby boy).  Hopefully we will have dance class on Tuesday evening so we can give them to her...but with the way this storm's going to hit, chances are that I will just have to make more cookies for next week's class!!

I have to say...as much as I love the Pearl Dust, it gets EVERYWHERE.  It starts when you open the cardboard wrapping that the tube comes in, and just gets worse as you start to use it.  There are a couple of poor Frankenstein cookies that have a nice little sparkle to them, just because they're resting on the same tray.  Oh well.  They're still cute.

Weekend Projects

This weekend, I will be...

decorating these little squares for Halloween!  I was on Pinterest (big surprise there) and I came across these cute Halloween cookies by Lila Loa.  I can't wait to try them!  My middle "Pea" has a Halloween party at his Preschool on Wednesday, so I'm hoping these cuties will go over well with the kids.

Q & A time...

A lot of people have been asking me how my cookies keep a uniform thickness...believe me, my first batches were NOT!  It was not a pretty sight.  I don't curse much, but I really sounded like Joe Pesci in Casino while making my uneven cookies.  Then, I came across my new baby at Karen's Cookies...

An adjustable rolling pin?!  Whaaaaat??  The rolling pin comes with 3 sets of rings (1/6", 1/4" and 3/8"), which you screw in at either end.  The 1/4" thickness works perfect for me.  Hope this helps anyone struggling with uneven dough!!

I'm hoping to divide my time with sewing...my machine feels neglected.  Etsy is also feeling neglected.  Hopefully my husband and children aren't feeling neglected...

Latest Cookie Commission

Once upon a time I used to be scared to try new things...

For some reason, I LOVE trying new things with these cookies.  My latest commission was for a customer that will be celebrating Eid tomorrow.  New commission = new products to try!  This time I tried Wilton's Pearl Dust in Gold.  I don't think this was supposed to happen, but I ended up using the whole vile of dust.  Definitely operator error.  I think the key was consistency.  I mixed lemon extract with the pearl dust, but I just couldn't get the thickness right.  Plus, I know I added too much of the mixture to the stars because it pooled in the center and cracked as it dried.  Luckily I made a bunch of practice cookies!

I'm also realizing that I'm not using enough royal icing to fill the shapes.  I'm my own worst critic, but I can see where I could have added more icing to the crescents and stars.  On to my next experiment!

New Blog

Okay, let's try this again...
I'm trying to get the hang of this website / blog / shop situation I've gotten myself into. Craziness. What I would LIKE to have happen is to have my blog show up as my home page on my website. Not sure if this will happen or not, but a girl can try!  I have no patience when it comes to this!
